When I was a little girl, my mom used to sing a song about silver threads among the gold. It was a song about growing older, which, for a child seemed to speak of a future that was light years away. But, the song also had an old fashioned sentiment that was curious and comforting to me.
My collage represents the continuum of past, present and future. The vintage silk kimono fabric lends its ancient roots. A color photograph is the contemporary element, and the threads that weave through them link the past, present with the future.
As I have gotten older, I have an affinity for history and the stories that shaped my life. Collage tells many stories, each element contributing to the whole. With this collage, I want the viewer to honor the past and to realize that time itself is an illusion. We are the sum total of the history before us and the future that stretches beyond. The delicate threads that weave past, present and future are the fabric of our lives. Yet, as our Zen masters teach, it is wise to live in the moment.
