I rarely paint from a model. Instead, I create from the memories of tactile sensation. How does the curve of the face feel, or the tension of a flexed muscle? I strive to embed the figure in space since atmosphere flows around and through the form. Mood and personality are the other components that breathe life into my figurative work. I want my figures to be convincing beings, not realistic in the sense of anatomical correctness, but alive in their attitude, posture, and complexity.
