A Common Thread...
"You've asked me what the lobster is weaving there with his golden feet? I reply, the ocean knows this."
A connection with nature informs my work, in my love of earth tones, patterns and lines. The repetition of shapes and marks sometimes mimic woven fabric. As I paint I feel an alliance with ancient weavers, channeling their wisdom through my brushes onto the canvas. I use stencils and scrapers to weave the paint into mysterious imprints that are often buried below the surface. Nature reveals deep secrets in patterns and rhythms reminding us that all life is a cycle of birth and death. The act of weaving, (like painting) is a merging of individual threads (or marks) that construct the complex fabric of humanity.
