Beyond the Physical...
A global pandemic was not on my agenda. Cloistered in my studio after "shelter in place" due to Covid 19, it was no longer business as usual. Seperated from my grandson, my family and students, I was powerless to control the situation. My usual approach to making art felt somehow disingenuous. Suddenly I had the urge to express physical power on the canvas. I put my large painting on the floor and with a hugh Chinese mop brush, put my entire body into the mark. I found my inner strength as fluid expression in the sanctuary of my studio. My focus shifted to the quiet of home and studio with an emphasis on the potential of nature and the human spirit. These paintings reflect a meditative calm with an assurance of resiliancy and resolve to heal the soul. Healing does not mean we are freed from affliction, rather it means we calm our spirit and embrace our condition. We find the inner strength to adapt and connect on levels that are beyond the physical.
